39 Dead After Russian Transport Plane Crashes in Syria

39 people aboard a Russian An-26 transport plane have died in Syria after the aircraft crashed near the Russian operated Khmeimim Air Base in western Syria. Russia continues to aid Syria’s efforts to defeat terrorism on its soil after positively receiving Syria’s invitation to form an anti-terrorist partnership in 2015.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the crash was due to a technical failure. The pilot was attempting to land when the plane crashed 500 metres short of the runway.
