A Musical Greeting From Belarusian President’s Son To China On Eve of Spring Festival

On the 16th of February, China will begin celebrations of the Spring Festival, a fifteen day festival commemorating the traditional lunar new year. While world leaders and dignitaries throughout the world are sending fraternal greetings to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people, the son of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has already won the proverbial prize for the world’s most original and heartfelt greeting to President Xi.

13 year old Nikolai Lukashenko frequently accompanies his father on state occasions and appears to have also taken a keen interest in expanding bilateral relations between Russia’s Union State partner and Beijing.

The young Lukashenko was filmed at the piano playing the much loved Chinese folk song Mo Li Hua (‘Jasmine Flower’) while his Chinese music teacher sung the lyrics. Nikolai then read the following message in Mandarin,

“Dear friends, respected Uncle Xi Jinping and Aunt Peng Liyuan, I wish you a Happy Spring Festival. I’m looking forward to meeting you in Belarus”.

Xi Jinping is expected to meet with President Lukashenko in Minsk later this year.
