According to sources close to the family of Alwaleed bin Talal, the highest profile Saudi taken captive during Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman’s Great Purge of 2017 has been released. Bin Talal is one of the world’s wealthiest men whose jet-set lifestyle has made him a familiar face throughout the world. He retains major shares in the US based corporations Citigroup and Twitter among others in a vast financial portfolio. During the 2016 US Presidential campaign Donald Trump called him “Dopey Prince Alwaleed” due to his connections to Hillary Clinton.
For the past month, rumours have been swirling that Muhammad bin Salman had demanded a substantial ransom from bin Talal in exchange for his freedom with some pointing to a figure in the billions of Dollars. It is not clear under what terms bin Talal was released, but during a video filmed in his ‘prison suite’ at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Riyadh, he told the cameras,
“There are no charges (against me). There are just some discussions between me and the government. I believe we are on the verge of finishing everything within days”.
Reports have claimed that bin Talal was severely beaten and tortured during his captivity, but that his bodily torturers avoided any form of brutality that would scar his face so as to give him a normal appearance when he would appear in public. The normally well groomed and moustached prince, sported a grey beard as he gave the propaganda cameras a tour of his luxury hotel room.
Press-TV has released a clip of the surreal video of the life of a Saudi Prince in captivity.
